THE DAILY NORM

The Daily Norm is the solo project of Kae Layne, a guitarist from Connecticut, currently residing in Minneapolis. His fingerstyle technique is described as delicate, atmospheric, and thought-provoking. Inspired by the likes of Lindsay Buckingham, Paul McCartney and Bruce Cockburn, he takes what he learns and adds it to his style in a way that you can immediately tell it’s The Daily Norm. He released his debut Album, “Sometime, Elsewhere” in January 2025. The album caught the attention of Minnesota Delta Blues legend, Charlie Parr, leading Parr to shout out the album in his newsletter, saying “If I had this on vinyl it would be worn out by now!”

Kae’s hope is that through his music and performances, he can make a connection with others. The Daily Norm had the opportunity to open up for a SOLD OUT show at Turf Club opening for Charlie Parr.

JEFF RAY

A songwriter since childhood, Jeff’s music is deeply personal and intuitive, showing a spiritual connection with the natural world  - often overruling structure in favor of improvisation. When he was seventeen, Ray left Minnesota for Memphis, absorbing the city’s gritty lessons in timing and tone, ultimately returning north with a quiverful of alternate tunings and a disciplined practice that treats composition as discovery. Across more than two decades, he has released eight albums and shaped solo performances that unfold like intimate masterclasses.

Learning from Calcutta slide-guitarist Debashish Bhattacharya, Ray borrows and rehomes melodic fragments so they sound both ancestral and newly created. He favors live-studio improvisation, minimal arrangements, and tonal choices that leave space for atmosphere and the audible presence of place. His 2025 album “Just” captures that ethos with raw takes that invite a felt response rather than intellectual parsing.

With his “portable front porch” foot-stomp in tow, Jeff Ray sounds equal parts Ry Cooder, John Hartford, Duane Allman, RL Burnside, Bruce Cockburn, Nick Drake, John Fahey, Muddy Waters and even a little Grateful Dead - but that’s just the first 3 songs! He has shared the stage with renowned artists such as Chris Smither, Justin Townes Earl, Pat Donohue, Mike Dowling, Phil Heywood, Dakota Dave Hull, Steve Potts (Gregg Allman Band), among others. He is regularly featured on NPR and performs wherever the road takes him - always finding a place to commune with nature along the way.
